Dis-Chem is looking for applicants who desire practical work experience in a professional setting through their internship program. The Dis-Chem Internship prepares learners to understand key principles within the pharmaceutical environment and emphasizes delivering exceptional customer service. Interns will be trained to deliver pharmaceutical care, manage patients' medication-related needs, and ensure accountability in addressing these requirements. This comprehensive approach enhances professional development and contributes to overall patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks related to the scope of practice for a registered pharmacist's assistant under direct supervision
  • Assist in the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines
  • Help in compounding and preparing both non-sterile and sterile medicines
  • Manage the distribution and control of stock for Schedule 1 to Schedule 6 medicines
  • Read and prepare prescriptions, label, and supply medications accurately
  • Provide instructions on the correct use of supplied medicines and promote overall health
  • Capture prescription details accurately and verify patient information
  • Assist patients at the dispensary and self-medication counter
  • Process claims to medical aids and maintain customer profiles in the system
  • Report stock discrepancies and assist with stocktakes
  • Adhere to Dis-Chem Policies, Health and Safety rules, and maintain housekeeping standards

Qualifications

  • Complete Grade 12/Matric
  • Obtain a BPharm degree over four years
  • Demonstrate computer literacy, particularly in MS Office
  • Engage in work during the degree program (eg holiday employment)
  • Familiarize yourself with Unisolve and E-Scripting software
  • Proficiently read, write, and speak English and a second language
  • Exhibit good communication, active listening, and customer service skills
  • Manage conflicts, demonstrate attention to detail, and possess sound numerical skills
  • Function effectively as a team player and maintain trustworthiness and honesty
  • Practice effective time management and handle pressure with composure
  • Understand retail and FMCG operations and be willing to work retail hours
  • Hold a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation
  • Ensure registration with the Pharmacy Council as a South African or possess a valid work permit
  • Maintain clear credit and criminal records
